What's new

Foods you REFUSE to eat.

Cause nothing is better then something that tastes like water with the texture of an old eraser. It only ever tastes like what its cooked in so why not just eat what its cooked in and leave out the boneless tentacled razor sharp beaked sea predator.
Are you sure you've had octopus before? Yes, the consistency is a bit "rubbery", but the taste is very heavy in flavor, even on it's own or, as I tend to have it, slightly juiced with lemon (seriously guys, lemon solves everything). I will say though, living on the coast I tend to have the freshest seafood available. Your results may vary, but my results have been very favorable. It's like lobster, but a bit "tougher". Think of a seafood steak.

I like octopus on occasion, but there is no way I would compare it to lobster.

After what you are saying here and what you said before, it may just be that i had a bad experience and maybe i should try it out again; and thinking back on it i really didnt have the ideal first try of it. Id say a Chinese buffet is not the place to start :)

... I'm amazed how many people think a buffet line is a good comparison for how food should taste. Note to all of you, eating at these places you are literally getting the lowest quality of food. Seriously. ESPECIALLY seafood.

We used to sell our lobsters that were literally half dead, sometimes fully dead and they'd use it. And they were only paying a buck a pound, if that. I can't imagine what else they use for these buffets.

Oh don't get me wrong, i know that buffet typically are very low quality. It is just and abundance of food at what is typically a cheap price which makes it so attractive and it also opens the doors to try out some new foods; and unfortunately in my case it turned me away from a food that may actually very good when eaten at a more relevant establishment.

Sort of a seafood bisk as a matter of fact.
Oh man, I love bisque...

But no. You boil the octopus in a salt water base, and once finished you let it cool, and then slice and eat accordingly. With a little bit of lemon juice, it's absolutely, perfectly seafood tasting without being "fishy". It's that same style of flavor as shellfish, but a chewier consistency.

I refuse to eat seafood in Kansas. There's just no way it's fresh enough to be any good. Local stream fish like bass or catfish are fine.

Seems like most people here just have taste preferences. Anyone opposed to foods on a moral or religious basis? I used to be morally opposed to any alcohol consumption, but I've softened on that quite a bit.

I have tried a lot of weird shit traveling to different places only thing i cant really eat is raw squid has some milky stuff that comes out of it .....just cant do it

There are very few things I can eat raw. I like egg yolks being liquidy but I hate the egg white being liquidy at all lol.

-Water Chestnuts
-White Tuna Sashimi
-Any form of olives
-Milk from anything other than almonds
-Tongue
-Liver
-Brain, though I've heard it's good
-Turkey Bacon
-Chocolate

There's probably a whole lot more, though I don't consider myself picky. I'll eat anything once, twice if I'm unsure.

1. Insects and other terrestrial arthropods
2. Unidentified fungi and some identified fungi (such as those in blue cheeses)
3. Worms (annelid, parasitic, nematode.. etc)
4. Algae
List ends.

I'm not extremely picky, but I do have a few items I don't really like.
  • Mushrooms
  • Ketchup
  • Tomatoes (salsa is okay, but nothing else)
  • Artichokes
  • Asparagus
  • Anything alive
Anything else is fair game really. I'll try it at least once if I haven't but usually I don't try it again after that.

Haha. What's weird is I used to loooove asparagus. Now I can't stand it for some reason.

It really depends on how it's cooked, in my opinion. I used to loathe it because I had only ever had it cooked in garlic butter. Now I've made it on my own and I think it's wonderful.

"REFUSE" is pretty powerful language... I'd love to see you guys in some sort of Les Stroud 5-10 day survival situation faced with these foods you "REFUSE" to eat. Of course there's food that all of us may not like, but as far as refuse I can't say I have many on the list. Like Gyoin said, I think I would try anything atleast once except maybe some more bizarre foods(looking at you Andrew Zimmerman) like fermented duck eggs and raw organs... The only thing that really comes to mind from my childhood is potted meat. I still to this day do not know why the hell my dad would ever put that on a sandwich, but then I would eat Vienna sausage which is about the same thing just packaged differently. Maybe it's not too much unlike a lot of crap most of us have eaten though like Taco Bell, or McDonald's... lol

Anyway, this has been my diet recently and hoping to stick with it for more than a year or two this time. Good thing is we get a free day to keep our sanity...

This is a guide we use to help plan our meals and shopping. And no offense to anyone who may like it but the tofu veggie burger protein vegan stuff is where we draw the line. We're not that extreme. =)
