First build, and upgrading it slowly.

Well i am actually planning on the same one Tr1age just got. Luckily I am working so much involuntary overtime at work that I should be ordering it sooner than I thought lol. I built this one I am using now, and the one before that. I would build again but I have no idea how to setup liquid cooling, and am completely unfamiliar with it.

for liquid cooling I might recommend a Corsair H100, its AMAZING when it comes to cooling and the price isn't that bad.
now.. you might want to check if it fits your case or you might want to go with a smaller version but the H100 is the best and has all the best reviews everywhere. +plus its maintenance free!
Here: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Serie...?ie=UTF8&qid=1342176563&sr=8-1&keywords=h+100 but most online retailers have it.

If he has any faith in himself he could also look at the XSPC Rasa kits. There are dozens of How-To's for installing them and they are significantly more efficient to the Corsair kits. Upgradeable too, should the need arise to add to the loop. Only $15-20 more than the H100 too.

sure! that's the optimal way but the advantage of the self contained systems is the "maintenance free" part. Now if you are the kind of enthusiast that has the time/love for you rig to keep it at its best then yeah "Real" water cooling is the way to go if you are overclocking significantly. I just like the simplicity/performance of the H100, that's all. :D

I vote for self contained no chance to fuck up your system but have a very positive effect on it cooling wise.

Agreed, running it and my PC runs cool - like 30-35C idle and maybe upto 50-60C when pushing it - and this is with a loaded system (crossfire grapics, sound card, 4 ram dimms, 3 HHD/SSD, etc.) that OC upto to like 4.6-4.8GHz

They are definitely not as risky as a custom loop(human error), but where there is water there is risk. A coworker/friend of mine had an H60 fail on him weeks after building his new gaming rig in early 2011. It fried his GTX580 and Corsair sent him a check for $150 to replace a $500 card.

If you have the room, and you're not looking for extreme overclockability, I would opt for a high end air cooler(ala Noctua NH-D14; NH-C14). Zero risk of water damage, silent Noctua PWM fans, as efficient as a H100@Extreme settings +/-1 degree.

The Corsair Hydro series definitely look nice in a case though. I can't wait to get settled in my new place so I can piece out my new loop. This stock HSF is fugly'ing up my pretty 800D case. Just my two cents though, either route you take will get you some nice cool temps.

Does anyone here have experience with Asus monitors? I'm looking to get (3) 27" monitors, but the Samsung monitors I was looking at were damn expensive. My roommate has (2) Asus VK278Q's but the color on them is disappointing. I've noticed black text on his monitors sometimes look green. I don't know if it's a miscalibration on his part, or if he just had bad luck with both monitors. I've never had any issues with my Samsung's in the past, so it's hard to stray from quality...but they're so expensive!

Yes. They are very nice. I'm running 3 of the 23.4" LED ones (VK248H, so same series just smaller). From what I can tell it's a tiny bit less vibrant (colorful) than the Samsung ones (I have a Samsung monitor for my other PC and a TV also) but still very nice contrast and smoothness (especially considering the price)

I'm thinking of getting an AOC 3D one... d2357ph I think if I can save the money by the time a friend goes back to NYC later this year.

Samsung has some of the nicest looking monitors/TVs on the market, ASUS also has some great monitors as well. My friend has the ASUS vh242h Monitor and he loves it.

I think Apple and Dell have the best monitors. Apple for color and Dell for gaming.

Thing is Apple and Dell monitors are quite expensive, and they most likely have IPS Panel screens instead of the regular TN Panels that most budget monitors have. IPS Panels usually have better colour as well.

Buy it once or don't buy it at all is my policy :)

I personally prefer Asus and Samsung to Dell overall. I use dell monitors at work and used to use them personally for gaming but overall like the colour vibrancy on Samsung and the overall performance (and price) of the Asus.

Apple and Dell both have some nice displays, but they are both re-badged Samsung PVA and LG IPS displays. I think I'm settled on a trio of these Samsung S27B550V for $320 each at BestBuy. Why is it so hard to find a nice display with wall mount holes?
:(
