Wildstar WildStar locks you down for a look at crowd control

Whether it's made up of stuns, knockdowns, sleeps, or disarms, there's a whole part of MMO gameplay dedicated to making sure your opponents don't get to do anything. The latest WildStar Dev Speak video notes that this is an important gameplay aspect that's also very challenging to manage from a design perspective. After all, having the ability to disable others adds a lot of strategic depth... but absolutely nobody enjoys being beaten on by multiple opponents without being able to do anything.

So what's the WildStar solution? Simple: Make sure that even crowd-controlled players have something to do. If you're stunned, you can mash on a key to try and break out early as in many fighting games. Knocked down? Use a roll to get back on your feet quickly. Disarmed? Run over and grab your weapon! You can see several forms of crowd control in the video below, and while the changes might not prevent you from being stunlocked by seven people, you can at least react with something other than patience.

 
I really like that they try to give you some control over CC, definitely adds another level to gameplay. Will make PvP more interesting. I could see disarm leading to some Benny Hill moments during raids haha.
 
Sounds great. Wonder how boss armor will work. Must it be at the same time, or will it work after enough people have hit?
 
I wonder if your weapon comes back to you after the disarm timer is up, or if you have to go get it no matter what. I imagine someone getting disarmed then leaving the weapon there and running off. Will it de-spawn? can anyone else pick it up? or will it magically come back to my hand after the timer is done.

Thats what i was wondering, if you can get disarmed in pvp can they take it?. Also I really like they did something for CC instead of just waiting it out
 
They said the disarm would last 5 seconds unless you picked up your weapon, I'm assuming it just reequips automatically.
 
Love the way they're handling this. Hopefully will be able to bind that breakout key to a mouse button and macro it for a super-quick break. :) The Ghost Rowsdowser at the end was intriguing too - wonder what that is all about.
 
I'll be able to watch this tonite. I'm hoping CC in PvE is predictable, at least to a reasonable extent. I'm fine with mobs running off to get their weapons, but if you are CCing in a raid or dungeon and the mobs have an indefinite time range that they are locked down, it could make things very difficult.
 
They mentioned a looong time ago about the disarm that it would only be for X amount of time, but they also mentioned you you would be able to "prevent" them from picking it back up for the duration. At the time I thought they meant body block, but I believe they stated there is no collision...

But now mix in a disarm + a tether? And add a taunt for reduced damage.
 
I really like this new "Cheese" to the game. I think this will be really useful as a tank, instead of getting stunned and bashed on for 5 seconds without being able to do anything. It certainly catches my attention for a more enjoyable play style.
 
only for one kind of cc. I actually see some of the other cc's being more useful in pvp. I really like the blind mechanics.
