Wildstar Wildstar Business Model Revealed.

Anytime you have a way to exchange real money for gold, pay to win comes into play. Granted, the best gear SHOULD be BOP from raiding or PvP, but one could convert money to CREDD to gold and buy all the best stuff gold can buy overnight. It remains to be seen if that would be terribly efficient or not, though.

well the thing that separates this from typical F2P cash shop is that there is no shop full of game breaking/character enhancing items that can only be bought with money. gold is the only in game currency and it can be acquired equally with time or money which I think is a great design. yeah I will probably fit into that group that has less time to grind and will buy gold from time to time with CREDD that I purchase but in the end I will only be helping the game by funding Carbine and never having an advantage over anyone else who may have more time than myself to earn all of the exact same things that I can buy with my gold. in the end we all win and we can all be happy and have fun hopefully for years to come. =)

I can't see myself buying gold with money. It just goes against my fundamental nature or something. I'm not morally opposed to it as long as the game makers are fine with it or anything. I think it would just mess with my immersion.

I am relieved its going to be sub with no cash shop. I usually end up spending more money in those stupid things then I would on a sub anyway. As for the spring 2014 release date, I'm disappointed that I won't be able to play sooner but I'm happy that when I do play I'll get a better, more polished game that isn't being rushed out the door. I think the reputation they have created is preventing NC soft from really pushing them to release the game too soon.

I agree!

I'm very excited for the subscription model revealed. My enthusiasm is augmented at the moment because we know we won't have a significant 'pay to win' model built in to keep the game afloat - 'yet'.

I can understand why some might be concerned, if they care about meta advantages such as CREDD. However, I've never seen this as a problem for people inside the game because everyone has a legitimate way to focus on aspects of the game they enjoy and everyone will have the capacity to level at a horizontal pace with their peers.

Although I'm disappointed we won't see Wildstar until at least early 2014, I have a feeling it's for the best. I wanted it out before Christmas and thought there still might be a chance for it to happen, but with the stagnant period after the race drop and the EQN reveal, I suspected the pushback as more probable.

As for more speculation about the game - maybe we'll see some other features added we're not aware of, since they're giving themselves more time. Perhaps, depending on the next two classes, we'll see two more or, maybe they'll implement a way of crafting or bargaining for interplanetary travel a la EverQuest boats...but in space! Perhaps they'll be able to add a few more raid encounters before the release?

This system is identical to EVE Online's system. What this does is blance between people with lots of time and little cash, and lots of cash but little time.

For example: I don't work full time. I also go to uni, but I basically work less than someone doing a nine to five. By that argument, I have more time to play than say... Gyoin. But he works more than I do, so he has more money. Now since I have more in-game money than him, he says to me 'hey man, I'll sell you a Credd for some gold', and we work out a price. If it works like EVE's system does, you will be able to directly trade for it.

When the game kicks off, I'll probably spend $100, and grab some CREDD. And then I'll keep it for when I see the price sitting at a good point to make my money. Since the RL price of CREDD won't change, the in-game cost of CREDD will sit pretty level. It doesn't fluctuate much in EVE, as far as I can remember. Its just an alternate revenue stream.

I'm glad that they are going this route with the business model. I like that I can simply pay a subscription fee every month which ensures I will always have access to content! Awesome!

it's pretty close but sounds like Carbine will control the value of the CREDD and it will be only traded on the Commodities Exchange(CX) which I'm ok with, hopefully this will keep the value pretty stable

Right. In that case, I have no real concerns about it. Hell, I'll probably subscribe, and use the CX to make some fast cash as needed.

I will be buying cred with gold only. For investment and for self use. I hope to only pay real money for the initial game.

Also think about this: CREDD (gold) prices will fluctuate during the month. When it gets to within a week of the monthly sub running out, like the end of the month, people will scramble to buy cred off the CX. Then a week after that prices will drop because the supply will still be there, but the demand will be down. It's like buying candy in the first week of November after the Halloween rush is done and the stores have too much.

Sounds good, want to be my CREDD financial advisor in game? I'd like to buy some from time to time and sell when I can get the most gold for my money. Sure beats farming so I can spend more of my time in PvP. =)

Well, and I'm an altaholic... We're always broke.

Hopefully this will be the case! Playing a virtual economy is fun and almost as addictive in some cases as raiding, but I've been bitten before! I also plan on using gold to purchase credd and not pay any subs, but I'm also thinking that if this turns into a Farm-to-play that the fun of the game will slowly degrade into a second job! That being said, I hope it doesnt work that way and I think its a great model to weed out gold farmers and balance a Virtual Economy.

Here are my tips that will hold true (most likely):
  1. Buy early and often, then hold on to it for long term investments.
  2. Whatever day of the month the game releases on, Sell the week before that day of the month when you sell, and buy the week after when you buy.
  3. Unless you want to turn real money into gold, and don't mind paying a premium in cash for it, never buy CREDD for cash. Its only use when buying for cash is to turn it to gold.

So much discussion overnight. I feel like I missed out on something.

Yeah Carbine just dropped bombs on us all unexpectedly on a Monday morning, and of course in the wake of what was one of the least informative WSW from last week. I think they like to mess with us at this point. At least they have fun toying with us. lol

I read that F2P article. While I agree that F2P is working now because it is new and will have troubles ahead, I don't think it is going anywhere. There will be companies who do it right and find the balance of content to cost to keep people paying.

Here's the thing: Wildstar is not free to play. It is subscription. It also has a way for you to pay your sub with in game gold. That is it.

F2P gives you enough of the game to play, then asks you to buy other parts of the game. Some F2P games give you everything and just ask you to pay for early access to some content (lol). Some F2P games make you pay for parts of the game you would not get otherwise. Wildstar does none of these.

Can you resell C.R.E.D.D.?
Yes, absolutely. We actually expect that. This means there will be some speculation on C.R.E.D.D. as well which I think will be very interesting thing to watch develop in the market. And it is free market, so I have been asked how many gold pieces is C.R.E.D.D. going to trade for. Here is my deep analysis development answer is…I have no earthly idea. Players are going to decide that for themselves. It is either going to feel very valuable to them or not. We will kind of see.
