As someone that does not normally actively seek out PvP, open world PvP gives me exposure to that side of the game.

It also adds a layer of realism to the game that I really appreciate while questing or gathering resources. I rolled a PvP server in WoW right away because I didn't know any better and that's what my friends played. It slowed me down a bit, but it was exciting to always be looking over you shoulder and being aware of what potential allies and enemies were in an area. Later, when I rolled an alt as PvE, I found it really boring.

To me open world pvp is where you can attack or be attacked by the other faction(s). It could be game wide, or in certain zones. PvE servers where you get to choose if others can attack you or not is the opposite of open world pvp to me.

I was going to post then I read this... pretty much.

I will add that one of my favorite things to do is go out resource gathering and seeing what kind of PvP I can get into. I love the spontaneous, unexpected nature of "open world PvP". One minute I'm minding my own business hitting a mineral node, the next minute I have the most intense 2 minutes of my entire day while getting jumped by some stealth class and winning the fight. Or dying painfully and calling my guild to avenge me as I'm being camped.

Anyone that wants to see the best World PvP I've probably ever experienced. This wasn't in WAR fighting over objectives, or in GW2 fighting over some developer pre-determined large scale BG type thing. This was 100% spontaneous ended up being Guild vs Guild. In this video there were about 25 of us and about 40 Alliance that were from 2 guilds one of them being the #1 PvP guild.

So in Tribune we had this thing called STREET JUSTICE. If any member of Tribune was camped in open world PvP then we call it in guild chat. On the call of leadership the entire guild was all but required to drop whatever they were doing and ride out and perform what we called STREET JUSTICE. So here it is, this is what can happen when a guild is active out in world pvp. good times.

Now this is pretty old I think from wotlk and the quality isn't amazing but this is one of my best world pvp memories of all time. The story pretty much goes that we were the best PvP guild on the server Horde side and this Alliance raid guild went on the forums and said they camped us and posted a video. So our GM, Faber, took this video from one of our members and spliced them together and showed our perspective of what they said happened. Having been there it was great to see. The video isn't too long but we fought out in Halaa and in their nearby city there for probably a couple hours. Of course the video with Tupac is from our perspective. Even in their own video we clearly wiped them twice, then took a guild photo... we then took the fight to their city where they were spawning. lol

I miss that guild so much and would love to experience something similar in Wildstar with you guys. We went on to be a top 10 ranked PvP guild in North America RBGs early Cata before the guild split up due to leadership disagreements. Again, TAB being an established community with a strong core leadership I would love to put in 10 years of gameplay into Wildstar and do all of it with 1 guild. How great would that be?
