Tell Kel what to upgrade

I've been meaning to do this for awhile now. I don't know anything about computers, so I'm wondering if my current computer will be able to handle WS without major lag or display issues. I don't care about running the game at optimal HD settings, I just want to be able to see the telegraphs and get out of the way. I'm thinking that I will want to upgrade the video card, but I don't know enough to be able to tell if that would help. Here's the specs of my current PC:

OPERATING SYSTEM:Windows 2.6.0.6002 (Service Pack 2)CPU TYPE:AMD Athlon(tm) Dual Core Processor 4050eCPU SPEED:2.12 GHzSYSTEM MEMORY:3.22 GBVIDEO CARD MODEL:ATI Radeon HD 4650VIDEO CARD DRIVER:atiumdag.dllDESKTOP RESOLUTION:1152x864

well, a budget would be nice to help you out picking out stuff, but from what you posted I'd go for a full Motherboard/RAM/CPU +Video Card upgrade... Power Supply might deppend on what you already have and if it can handle your new Vidcard.
Assuming your Hard disk drive is decent, keep it. Same with optical drives and the case.
Another thing is that you say you don't know much about computers so I'm assuming your are NOT overclocking right?

Besides that Intel or AMD? Intel is pricier but better overall, AMD is best bang for buck. Same thing with Videocards Nvidia vs ATI.

I bought this computer this way for 200 bucks, so I didn't make personal choices in its construction. Basically, it sounds like your saying a whole new commuter is in order. I probly won't have the budget for that until Christmasish when I get my bonus.

Ok, then a little more information would be great... like how much are you able to spend right now on this.
maybe motherboard model to see whether a new videocard would work (sometimes upgrading just the videocard is a great step up that you can keep even after upgrading the rest)

Or even consider just saving up for a whole upgrade later on if you are not NEEDING it right now NOW!!
Do you have a Techie friend that can hook you up? like taking a look at your rig and help you decide?

I'm not needing anything new at the moment. I just want to play WS when it comes out, which will probly be Dec at the earliest, I expect.

How do I find out what my motherboard's model number is? Is it in my computer spec, or do I need to open the case and look at it.

You need to talk to me like I'm really, really stupid.

It is possible that the mobo model number may be on some of the paperwork you got with the computer. Most likely you will have to open the computer and look for what is printed directly on the mobo. It may even be printed on the back side of it which would mean you disassembling it.

I assume mobo is motherboard. I'd be terrified to try to remove it for fear of scratching it or something. As a Craigslist computer, it didnt come with the best of paperwork.

If you have a webcam I can assist you.

Taking apart a computer is easy. Its just a bunch of screws and plugs. I get it if you don't want to though. If you end up upgrading your stuff that's what you got to do though.

I'm no computer expert, but I followed this guy when I built my rig to play SWTOR: http://www.hardware-revolution.com/

He also gives you customization options, which is nice. Just keep in mind that the prices he lists don't include the cost of keyboard, mouse, operating system, monitor, or anything else you need (webcam, headset, etc).

When you're ready to put it all together you can follow along with this newegg 3-part video series:

I would save up for Black Friday and buy everything then... the sales are ridiculous.

Soooooooo I will just point Razulian in your direction

Also since they haven't really pinpointed any min specs yet it will be kind of difficult to tell you what they are planning for, especially with the delay to 2014.

Thanks for pointing it out for me. :)

Kel you need more lazers and have to paint your system red; red makes everything faster.
On a serious note, if I were you I'd upgrade the whole system.
The processor of yours is based on AMD's K8 architecture, whereas when I had a K10 (my first basic gaming PC had an Athlon 7450) and it would be limitting my computer.
Heck I had a Radeon 4850 in there too and it would be troublesome.
To end this all I'll say that by no means 3GB of RAM is enough when you want to play games. I mean it causes a lot of HDD read/writes and that provides lag.

Just make sure to save money as much money as you can for when the game comes out, you'll be happy that you did.
