GW2 Taking time off for release....

Soooooo.... You know the funniest thing, the release is right when I'm taking vacation time, what are the odds :rolleyes:
I work the night of the 24th and have the next 10 days off... I'm shipping the wife away somewhere not sure where yet, but somewhere.... Anyone else just happen to be on vacation around release date?
 
I'm still relatively new in my current job, but if I'm given the opportunity to take some time off I may take the Monday and Tuesday off. I'll be on for the entire weekend (already planning a small LAN with a couple friends) but other than that most likely will just pout at work come Monday and Tuesday XD
 
I have vacation for the 3rd BWE but work cuts into my headstart time. I posed a question on the GW2 twitter as to what time the headstart opens. If its during the day on the 25th I only have to take one night off, if its midnight on the 25th then there is going to be a REALLY sick guy in NY lol.
 
Release is the worst timing ever for me. Moving to Iceland August 1st, I'll be gyping around until the 21st and I'll be homeless until August 28th, which is the day my classes start. And I'll be in Iceland, Guild Wars might take a backburner to volcanoes and waterfalls and vikings and stuff. At least for a while anyways.
 
I love taking time off to play games all day as much as the next guy, but I learned with many other MMOs that it's usually a waste to do so right at release. It's always frustrated me to use up vacation days only to have the servers constantly crashing and/or laggy while they work out some last-second kinks. If I were going to take any time off, it'd probably be a week or two after release. I'll be playing as much as the wife can stand at night and on the weekends, though. :)
 
Sean-Yeah 9 would mean 12pm for me so I would only burn one sick day.

Ago- I agree with you on the frustration with headstarts/release sometimes, but I have to say, ArenaNet is looking well prepared for this.

I'd be surprised it there any crashing, maybe a server reset here and there.
 
Yeah, I have been up for a lot of midnight "server launches" and it usually ends the same way. Asleep by 2 out of boredom and frustration. This time around though I'm much more hopeful. With their latest stress tests and such I'm pretty excited that I actually might not be disappointed at midnight!
 
...This hits so close to home. I'm taking a 3 week vacation starting on the 17th.....am going to miss my head-start and like the first 10 days of gaming......:(
 
I have a 3 day weekend every week and it starts on Saturday mornings. Ill be sure to dl the latest patch on Friday night from work and be able to play the head start with no interruptions since the girlfriend will be playing in the next room. Not taking any extra time off since I can usually get a good 4 to 6 hours of play in at work :)

So, I was wondering who is planning on taking time off or possibly feeling a little *cough cough* under the weather upon release?

I've already requested Monday the 27th off so that gives me Sat-Monday to marathon... Then I took Friday the 31st off, and Monday is a work holiday (bonus!), so that's a four-day weekend. ...with the potential to take more... I'm thinking Tuesday might be a bit of a cluster with the non-pre-purchasers showing up...

I'm not in any particular hurry to level or anything, I just know that once the game is out, I'll likely not be able to concentrate at work anyway, so I might as well get it out of my system. ;)

Anyone else taking time off at release?
 
I think there is a thread like this already somewhere, with a bunch of people taking time off, including me.

I swore we had one too... but I for the life of me can't find it. So I suppose carry on.
 
Well, I get back from vacation in Florida on Saturday the 25th. I figured that since I will miss a good chunk of my head start time on Saturday morning that it is only necessary to extend that vacation into Monday the 27th. Why not, right?!
 
Oh the joys of working from home... No days taken off here, but definitely plan to not be doing any customer visits the week following early release.
 
Best part about being my own boss is being able to take as much time off as I want. I don't plan on doing any work for at least a week come the 25th. I may have to starve myself to make up for the loss of income, but it will totally be worth it. ;)
