My dad had a valve replaced in his heart. They were considering bovine, but he ended up getting titanium, for that space age flair.

Mechanical lasts longer a lot longer, but requires you to be on blood thinners the rest of your life. I'd probably take that over animal though; gotta be reopened about every 10 years and have that replaced.

Stemcell grown heart valves are coming soon™. They´ve already did some tests where they 3D printed a "skeleton" of a heart valve out of suger and let stem cells loose on it with good success.

When we "finish" our full rotation of AMA's, we should then re-open them all and allow for some follow-ups and make it a fun place for new people to get some questions in to our more veteran staff members.
