On The Road Again.

Cool. Yeah, Manhattan is an island so anywhere is close to the water haha. I think you might have trouble finding a job quickly here unless you are willing to do some kind of crappy gig for a while. I would suggest trying to locate a job in an area at least a bit before you move there, the market is rough these days.

NY where dreams are eaten alive, spit out, and given to others as breakfast concealed in the idea that it will benefit their dreams as well.

Ahh I over looked NYC - I thought you were just talking about New York as a whole. But yeah, I've been to NYC...it's a nice place, but as you've suggested I would probably be looking for a *bit* more quiet and perhaps closer to the Canadian border - are you familiar with the Buffalo or Rochester areas? I was originally considering something close to south central part of NY (like Middletown - for purely geographic purposes) and briefly thought about NYC but I'd like to build up a bit more in state *assuming* that's where I decided to go.

Right now I'm fairly settled on the hwy 5 strip in Oregon (probably Eugene or Salem or one of their local communities) and SE of Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is more based on prospects of returning to school because, fortunately, my situation has improved enough that I feel like I have the room to play this move smart.

Well. I just moved to dallas and found a job like instantly.

It was pretty nice (it literally took like a week to find it.) And every place seems to be hiring. Plus everybody in texas seems to be really really nice.

idk thats just me. I'd type out more but im leaving for dinner soon. So I wish you the best of luck <3

Lived in Buffalo for a year and a half, couldn't wait to get out. Rochester isn't so great either, but Buffalo is just a crime laden wasteland of a city. People there are all about Buffalo, but it was not for me. There are some nicer suburbs outside of Buffalo, but keep in mind the weather sucks and there isn't much to do.

Ok, thanks for the heads up! Is there an area in central-north NY that you could recommend based on your experiences? Have you lived in other states? When you were mentioning jobs earlier near your home area, were there any you were immediately aware of?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Would you mind sharing what lead to your move and a little about your current work and family situation?

NY is a bitch man. If you need a job in NY you don't usually move their first and look second. You look first and if there is a chance you take it THEN move. Other areas are much more forgiving in this manner.

I've been working in healthcare since I graduated so unfortunately that is all I really know. If you were licensed as a nurse's aide or technician I could definitely help you out. I moved to the city to go to school; it doesn't hurt it pays the most haha. My girlfriend is pursuing work as an actress/musician/performer so she has been trying to get out here since before we were dating. It just kinda worked out nicely.

Most of my family lives in or around the city. My mom grew up in queens and my dad grew up in Jersey and has worked in the city most of his life so it is familiar territory for me.

It's a tough place, but it can be worth it.

Central NY is a bit of a gray area, but I did live in Albany for a number of years. If you want to be an ambulance dispatcher I can hook you up! Central NY is pretty inexpensive; the price jumps very quickly the closer you get to the city though.

I've only ever lived in NY, but I know a lot of people move to Jersey or Pennsylvania and commute; you get the best of both worlds that way. Pennsylvania is great, you should look into the Milford area!

I live in Putnam County, NY about an hour-hour and a half north of the city. First off NY is insanely expensive and like Tristan said you should have q job lined up first. Its tough to find things out here. Also never come to Putnam County...its like a vortex of black doom that never let's you out. When I retire in 17years 6 months, I am moving far far away from NY. But who is counting?

Well I moved because my boyfriend got a job at Texas Instruments and from our previous two years of distance I knew it wouldn't work out unless we were in the same area. So after we talked about it he offered to let me live with him. So while it isn't life savings sort of deal, and he can easily pay for our our bedroom apartment I still go crazy if I sit at a computer all day.

But as for my job I just got it at Office Depot, which I know isn't a fancy job or anything but its pretty nice. And any store I've went into, staples, bestbuy, target, walmart, various mall stores, some restaurants, and a lot others all have now hiring signs on them.

Like I went to the mall the other day to look for pretzel bits. At the register I was talking to one of the workers, and I mentioned that I worked at another Pretzel place and she was like "Do you need a job?".

As for family they aren't really crazy or anything. But I recently moved away from my mom because of how toxic it was to my grandparents which was an amazing change for me. Honestly my life got ten times better. But if anything goes wrong in texas I have them to fall back on so it is what it is.
