Old school game geek-out!

Chrono Trigger got mentioned in another thread I saw today. I've been playing it through again on my iPad and it is every bit still a masterpeice as when it was played on the SNES. Great storyline, arguably one of the best musical scores of all time, tight battle system, old school sprite graphics... I think I just squeed a bit in my pants.

One thing that CT got right that few RPGs have ever been able to replicate is replayability. With the multiple endings, hidden characters, and easter eggs I hit New Game+ over and over and over again.

So what's your favorite classic game? Don't say Halo 1. I'm talking mid-90s or older. Games that have stood the test of time and are as epic now as they were then.

lol. My favorite old games have to be the Digimon World Series, mostly 1 and 3. They weren't even that good, but it was the first game I ever played.

And Spyro, loved that game <3

I tend to always go back to Breath of Fire 3, Final Fantasy Tactics and 7, Super Mario RPG, CT, Xenogears, Super Metroid, and any variation of Zelda. I have beaten LttP many times, without dying and with every item in game. Haven't done it without getting hit yet, but I have done it without even fainting with a fairy rez.

Fucking loved Spyro. And Crash Bandicoot. But they don't replay that well once you've 100% them.

I liked Double Dragon on the NES. It was the first brawler I ever played. Contra with it's famous Konami Code is another fave of mine.

Original LoZ, OoT, Majora's Mask, Bubble Bobble, Maniac Mansion, Mario Bros. 2 and 3, Mario 64, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Little Nemo: The Dream Master, Chip N Dale: Rescue Rangers, Yoshi's Story, Duck Tales.. so many.. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Ocarina of Time.

My parents played video games with me when I was growing up. Dad and I often played a game called Sky Kid that no one seems to remember, and mom and I played Bubble Bobble. But my favorite memories were of watching mom play the original Legend of Zelda and helping her through it (mostly moral support, lol). She made her own maps with drawings and everything. It took me a while to be able to play it as well as she could, but I was so excited the first time I beat it on my own. I still have the dungeon maps she made and the taped together pages of the overworld map we copied from a Nintendo Power magazine with notes scrawled all over it.

Gyoin just smashed my list.

LoL.

Adding to it.

Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Tales of Phantasia (though the ending was lame), Terranigma, and Rudra's Treasure.

Half of those never hit US release, so I had to find a translation for my ROM. But they were a LOT of fun.

Rudra's treasure was an FF style RPG where mantras were spells. So you would "create" a mantra by LITERALLY typing it in letter by letter.

Various syllable combinations had various affects for varying MP. Was really unique.

EDIT!

Add Lufia, Lufia II, and Illusion of Gaia.

You know that Terranigma and Illusion of Gaia are actually in the same universe and are sequels technically, right? Amazing things can be found on the map of Terranigma, such as the Island of Mu or something like that in IoG.

Also, Star Ocean 1 was fantastic once they "finalized" the translation. Still find japanese in the final edit of it though haha. SO MUCH EXPANSION TO STAR OCEAN GAMES.

Doki Doki Panic. I actually haven't played Lost Worlds.
Edit: I actually feel like playing on my emulators now. Damn! Gotta hook up the failputer. *killme*
Just grab SMB All-Stars for SNES. Lost Worlds is just like SMB1, but harder.

Contra was so awesome. Such a classic. I like a lot of the old Mario games. I think Super Mario World was my favorite though...Yoshi was so good <3. Ocarina of Time for the SNES was awesome. I like Star Tropics for the NES. Oh man super old school...Burger Time for the Atari. Countless hours spent on that game...

Final Fantasy II (i forget what the actual version is) was my all time favorite game. Ever. Period. Final Fantasy III was a close second. I definitely set up an emulator and played FFII on my projector a couple months ago. Watching Mist Village go up in flames on an entire wall...was insane =x

For me it's definately Age of Empire 2, the campaign were great in term of gameplay but also historically acurate. It's the game that really got me into PC gaming at the beginning of high school.

I remember we were 9 person from the class that played it on almost every friday night. What we did is 8 person on the map, free-for -all with open alliance meaning you could make/destroy alliance secretly during the game. I remember one night one of them menaged to be allied to the 7 other player. So while we were fighting each other he was building a terrifying economy and means to build a huge army quickly ( didnt got a big army army to lure suspicion), but then he made his awfully huge army and told you that player X was coming to attack you (was a lie) so he moved his army freely past your wall to "defend" the city.

He then bullied the player into giving him a lot of ressources in the next couple of second or he would make his army hostile in the center of your defenselesss city.

I have many more story of this kind on AoE 2 that why this game is still kinda special for me.

I had actually thought of AoE. I couldn't afford the full game for a long time, so I played the demos for AoE 1 and 2 over and over again, lol.

I FORGOT. :D

I thought they were continuations of Soul Blazer also...right?

I've never found a fully translated Star Ocean ROM. I've always wanted to play it though, it looked awesome.

And... MoDSec , JEBUS

Big list.

Edit: SHINING FORCE!!!

Megaman 2 and 3. Lol used to roleplay as robot masters when I was a kid. Final Fantasy 8 was a damned good one too, first FF I played and still my favorite.

The arcade game Joust. My dad loved and played it when he was younger, and even though he never was really into games as an adult, he'd always be willing to play that with me. It's memories like those that I really love.

I still got my SNES sitting at my house. Although I don't have Chronotrigger. :(

Love the days of the ol' N64 and SNES.
