I just wanted to put out a quick tip guide to events run for the community as I have seen quite a few members stepping up lately to hold some great events!
This is something we highly promote and want to keep as time goes on.
So here are some tips when making an event:
That's all for now, feel free to add more below.
This is something we highly promote and want to keep as time goes on.
So here are some tips when making an event:
- Pick a time and day, do not poll for it. A poll usually ends up getting more confusing then some people saying yes and others saying no. If it doesn't work for everyone, make another event and those people can go to the other one!
- Have you made a weekly event? Did you miss one? Don't WORRY, everyone understands work and RL come first and sometimes we have shit get in the way of our gaming. If someone is not understanding of this or it becomes a repeat occurrence, obviously you should probably not host an event, but here and there don't get down on yourself. These are for FUN including the HOST.
- Turnout: The turnout will always depend on: Game, Host, Time, and Interest. Do not judge the entire site activity on an events turn out or RSVP's. There are so many mitigating circumstances that go into events like this that if you hold the entire community accountable for a successful or failed event you will pull all your hair out.
- Prizes, try to talk to the Officers to see if there is something that can be used as prizes for say a tourney!
- Build up events: Start off an event as a fun event, then turn it into a tourney and have it progress over a few events. Keeps interest and has an outcome and bragging rights! As well as perhaps prizes?
- Know the different between LFG and Events. Looking for group is used for you personally for an unorganized mashfest. Events is used for a specific time, date, and laid out plans of gameplay.
- A host doesn't always have as much fun as the participants. This is just a known fact, while everyone else just has to show up, you are in charge of making sure everyone is there, where are the missing people, and starting on time or knowing when to push it or cancel it.
- A host doesn't have to continue hosting if they don't like it.
- A host should ask other officers for advice if they are having issues, that is what we are here for.
- Participants should leave feedback on how much they enjoyed the event when it is done in the thread created for it. OR IDEALLY the Host or Participants took video or screenshots and can do a WRAP UP thread. It is always nice to have memories of the events and for those who missed it to build hype for the next one!
