Building a PC for Guild Wars 2

$800 Is viable, ideal would be $900 - $1000. But I'm sure you can have a good PC for $800. I'm building a list at the moment on Newegg.
built mine off newegg for 805 and i ran the BWE on high just fine the whole time, think i turned it to med-high for WvW so it can be done easy for 600 if you can use some parts you already have, case, hard drive dvd drive ect.

Injecting the hamster in your computer with steroids is cheating, and leads to hamster cancer.

this is what i have:

GIGABYTE Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128506 - 149.00

EVGA GTX 570 Superclocked - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130595 - 270.00

Corsair 650W Power Supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 - 120.00

Sandy bridge i5 2500k - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 - 220.00

Arctic Cooling CPU Cooler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186039 - 45.00

Grand Total: $801

this will let you run at ultra graphics...and never lose FPS...

if you don't require pretty graphics then you could drop the graphics card down to a GTX 550ti...which is only 125.00

bringing your total down to 655

in my opinion, the i7 as of right now is not worth it....it's more of a video editing/live streaming processor

The game really doesn't take a mega machine to run even if you want to run it on high 8gb of ram and a 6850 video card ran it on best appearance all weekend, another tip that helped me build on a budget is if you don't insist on having a supper computer AMD is much more affordable and performance is only marginally better in the end

Probably going to order it this weekend. So excited...

... to stare at the GW2 icon on my desktop for a month.

It can be done, my 2500k only costed me about 210$, the GTX 560 Ti about 150$, the mobo (Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z) about 195$ and everything was new. You might be able to get a 500-600 Watt PSU for about 45$ (maybe used, but used stuff generally also works great).

This build can handle every game you throw at it smoothly, everything at max settings ofcourse (including anti-aliasing).
And all that when they just released, the prices probably will have dropped by now though (I got the parts from auctions on eBay, that's how I got the pretty decent prices).

EDIT:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 2500k, easily overclockable to 4.5GHZ 220$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131806R Asus MIV Gene-Z/GEN3; it does the job, it does it really well 128$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500196 Zotac GTX 560 Ti (it does the job, but for ~50$ more you could get a 570) 210$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182199 Rosewill PSU, it's not bad but it'll get the job done. You probably will be able to overclock too (atleast I could with a 560 Watt one, my systems usage never is above 400 Watts) 55$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181012 This is the heatsink I use, it keeps the CPU as cool as it should be 33$

It's a bit more than you'd want to, but just check on eBay and you'll probably find something decent around these lines.

yeah i played on a laptop aswell. since im at uni its just easier. but i do miss my pc i made a few years back. damn it now i want a new one.
must resist...

every now and then i get REALLY tempted to spend money on new parts n stuff I REALLY don't need but... **SHINIES** so I must resist the dark side and their cookies.

yeh i keep finding myself surfing around for bits to make a new pc even though i cant really afford to lol especilly since i have this laptop tht does the job

Except the best amd has to offer gets dominated by the i5 2500k. Right now, Intel is king. Amd doesnt even exist in the realm of running a game relatively well in my mind.

I don't understand what makes you say that. He's trying to build a budget PC and AMD's are budget cpu's (and gpu's). You can save $100 and get a phenom II x4 or 6, then use the 100 dollars to buy a more expensive graphics card. The difference between a phenom II (aka the ultimate budget gaming cpu) and 2500K isn't nearly large enough where using the spare money on a better GPU won't give you much greater performance.

(It's kind've weid though that AMD doesn't even exist in your realm of running a game well, considering they own ati, and their cpu's don't have a track record of bad gaming performance. I mean the trinity API for their newer cpu's completely dominates the intel HD 4000 in dx11 gaming. Also, I wouldn't say their best gets dominated by the i5 as some of their Zambezi models bench much higher then it...just not in gaming.)

My point is, if your gonna skimp on something, dont sacrifice your 2500k. Having a 2500k and a decent graphics card are not mutually exclusive~

They are if you're on a tight budget. You will get better performance just using the money on a better gcard. Obviously a 2500k is one of the best gaming cpus out there (falling only behind one of the newer i7's who's number I can't remember), but it doesn't improve your fps so much that you can't just spend the money on a upgraded gpu, and wouldn't see a substantial increase in gaming performance with an AMD. It's better to spend the money on the gpu, as the cpu only accounts for 15% of your fps in gaming. If you're building a budget gaming PC, the only thing you really don't skimp on, is the gpu. The cpu isn't nearly as important (granted you aren't purchasing anything substantially out of date.)
