The Xi3 Piston computer gaming system- better than Steam Box?

I just ran across information on the Piston gaming system today. It's at CES and has some really cool features. Like being completely upgradeable, runs any we based or PC game, "should" run the Steam OS, and supports multiple display formats including 3 monitors, TV, and even Oculus Rift.

At $999 it's about the cost of a decent PC, but in a smaller package. It comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD, but can be expanded to hold a lot more.

I think it's an awesome idea, but at the end of the day isn't it just a small, focused computer? For the price, I wonder if just building a PC wouldn't be better.

The very specific parts it requires might make it harder to upgrade than you think. But as its own entry level it isn't bad.

Most of the PCs shown at the CES are bad deals. Only the cheapest ones are ok (up to 600). For more information you can check:

Also about the piston, I checked it out when it was first released, it´s not a bad deal, but I love my big towers :D
