Hi!

First, I'd like to commend this guild for such an amazing site. It's utilitarian, snazzy, manageable and friendly - so, thank you!

As a daily practice and as the perspective I have when engaged with a group, my title describes - in so many words - how I operate when I'm part of a guild or clan. Having been involved in online gaming for almost fourteen years, I've only just begun the process of assimilating higher content gaming into my entertainment and routine.

Those nigh-fourteen years ago, I remember jumping into EverQuest running around the Greater Faydark slaying skeletons and selling the 'elusive' bone chip stacks to rich fifty-somethings for 1pp and thinking it was the best thing ever. Over time I joined different guilds and played different games, never finding the right group of people (although I came close a few times).

Although I am a loyal, dependable (classic Leo (except I'm a cuspie <3 (if any of you do mappings for free let me know ))), patient person..I've had difficulty finding communities who accept me for who I am and what personality and talent I can bring in the forums and media made available to team mates / members. I'm a quiet person, but if I trust you and you need me, I'm a sure bet!

I guess then I have a question for those reading: what has made this community 'worth' the time and journey to you? To those of you who are in some way responsible for the creation or upkeep of the guild, what were your motives in crafting the guild into what it is today?

Oooooo questions for us! I think our motivations can best be described as our motto of "The community that outlasts Release Dates"
. For us it has been so much more than just the next game or the next big thing. A lot of us loved or love wow, but many of us didnt start there. we play lots of games, and juggle full time jobs and the like. The creation of alttabme has been a very iterative process. We started about 10 or more years ago with a site called pope limited. We had webcams chats rants the war. It was our Facebook before Facebook. It allowed us to be ourselves, speak our minds, yell and scream, yet still enjoy each others company in the games and real life events we organized and played.

We then went to alttab.me which was just meant for close friends and family and evolved into The alttabme.com that you see here. We wanted to bring functionality that juxtaposed the games we played as well as providing a safe place for people to be themselves. To choose an alternate name or reveal their real one. A place that you can come and go, but if you wish to have a bigger role there was the option to become a TAB member.

Through membership you help us shape what this place is all about.

We have guilds and clans in multiple games but we are a community first and foremost. The guilds and games are an added plus.

So for us to enjoy the in between time of games and work and life. Alttabme.com was created. It is a place where a lot of our family and friends hang out. But it isn't like a Facebook page where our family judges us. We are honest and forth coming with our shit, have blow ups like any other family, and usually work it out. And we expect others to handle their shit as well. This means being able to know if this is not a place for you or is.

The community has a chance to regulate itself through our combined love for games and wanting to play with one another. So even if we do speak our minds and go at each other here and there we all, at the end of the day, love each other and keep it civil so we can play with one another.

The biggest thing is FUN. As the admin here my first goal is to make sure I am having fun, because then in turn I will share that sentiment and include others in fun ideas, expansions, features, and the like. So we are a community for ourselves and for each other. It is a wonderful combination of both lines that we all ride these days but don't need the extra baggage of like we do in rl, everyone has a voice and controls their own actions here. And in turn that will show them whether or not they wish to stay, lurk, or become a TAB member and contribute more.

Hmm... Well, I've been gaming online just about as long as you have! I remember playing EQ and being on a EQ server because, well, I didn't know any better. I also slayed bears for hours upon hours upon hours for High Quality hides that a player name Scar Browed would pay me something like 50 pp each for.... I knew nothing at the time. I still know very little about EQ, as I was a nooblett. This is actually what inspires me to heavily research about my MMO's of today and to continually be ahead of the curve....

But back in my vanilla WoW days, I started playing with people at my local LAN Center. Over time, I ended up in their raiding guild of Arcanix, where I first met Tristanmon, the troll rogue with a white raptor (man I still hate you for that). While gaming with a lot of real life buddies and new internet friends, bonds that were new ended up becoming very strong as we played, raided, pvp'd, talked, etc. together. Over time, we even met up IRL together for general get together's and even our Guild Leaders wedding! Man that weekend was an absolute blast.

Over time, as people drifted apart and stopped playing WoW, many of us kept communication through facebook and the sorts. Then came along Tristan's (Tr1age) idea of getting together for GW2 and reforming Arcanix! At the time of discussions, I was really missing out of those experiences we had back in the day, so I dove head first into alttabme.com, our base for restarting those glorious days. Even thought GW2 wasn't the biggest success that all of us wanted, alttabme did. Having that same synergy as the past, with old members and new members, I was able to enjoy exactly what we had in the past. Just now we won't have that sad drifting away part since even though we may have games that we all stop playing, we'll always have alttabme to stay together.

I've been playing games for a long time. I'm an old fogey. I was around when everquest came out, but I refused to get sucked in. At the time I worked as a PC builder and sales person. The group of us played games we could LAN which was mostly FPSs. I was hooked in to the whole gaming scene though and knew how evercrack could take over your life.

I got into WoW because I read reviews about beta and how it was beginner friendly to non mmo players. I started about 3 months after launch and played for 8(?) years.

The thing I brought to my mmo experience was the idea that I wanted a community to play with like in my LAN days. My first character ever in WoW lasted 4 hours then I went hunting on the forums and websites for a guild to join. It took me 2 days but I found a great guild forum and then figured out what it would take to get in with them. Rolled on their server and jumped through the hoops to get in the guild. By the time we killed Ragnaros for the first time I was an officer.

About that time my job hours changed so I was working graveyard shift and was able to play at work for the 2nd half of my shift. Since that time fit perfectly with the aussies I found an oceanic server that was 2 weeks old and jumped ship to the horde. I did the same thing searching for a guild and found a good one. Spend over 7 years on that server and made some friends that I still keep in touch with even though we haven't played together in 2 or 3 years.

I spent 2 or so years away from mmos until I saw GW2 and all it had promised in a new way to play. First and foremost I wanted to find a great community to play with and knew that would be a better step than figuring out what class or race or whatever to play. I managed to come upon the AltTabMe podcast on episode 1 or 2, I forget, but they were recruiting and I was hooked. The site wasn't what you see now and it wasn't nearly as good, but I knew there was a great bunch of people behind it. I even saw someone here so aligned with my interests in the way I game that I was afraid they would say "no thanks we already have one of those"

For me the gaming experience is more about the people you play and connect with than the game itself. That's what I look for when I find a game to put my time into. It sucks that GW2 didn't have all the tools to keep people sucked in like WoW or Everquest did, but man did they do some things right. Here's hoping we all find one that will put the pieces together. Until then I'm happy we are all still here on AltTabMe.com

I just showed up for the free beer.

In all seriousness I began my gaming life with shooters before they turned into the watered-down junk they are now. I ran with a great group of people for competition in games like Call of Duty(im talking THE original), Battlefield 1942, etc. and competed in the old school gaming ladders for computer gear and small cash prizes. Really it was about the clan and playing with like minded individuals. Tr1age is technically family and...well really most people here are family too...my gaming family. I have been around on one level or another for the previous iterations of the community as mentioned above(Pope Limited, alttab.me). People take breaks, some come and go but there is always a community that forges on through any game. Guild Wars 2 helped alttabme prove this resilience.

The banners had been called, GW2 was looking good. The guild began to come out from their dark dungeons and places of slumber and we looked forward to Guild Wars 2 as the game to play for the foreseeable future. The game did not hold up to continued, sometimes hardcore play for some of us. I think it was at that moment that we finally coined our motto of sorts as "The community that outlasts release dates". Frankly, I am not sure why it took us that long to say something like that. Some of us have been gaming, chatting, experiencing R/L together for years. We finally completely embraced the idea that our community is the most important thing to us. This is the place I come to after a long work day/week to kick back and shoot the shit with long time family/friends and newer members alike.

So to answer your questions, the close friends made the journey to where we are now worth it. The new friends and new experiences yet to be had are what makes it worth it to continue to grow. As for motives, the main motive is to have FUN in a great, adult atmosphere of like-minded people. I am a gamer of course but my tastes have changed over the years. I don't mind a great single-player game with a good story but I would much rather be playing a multiplayer, team-oriented game. The reason for this is not necessarily the game, but the people. The friends and family I chat, meet, and game with are what make life enjoyable for me.

Black sheep here. I've been in this community for a while, but when gw2 failed to appease me I sort of lurked, because I wasnt too comfortable. A few things gave me reason to post occasionally. I've become less scarce due to a few members egging me on, but these are good people whether I lurk or not. Sometimes it is just forgotten that we are a community and we can talk about something other than the games. Things have improved from that point so that I'm posting again, but there was a time when I didnt feel great about speaking at all, because if it wasnt about the game then you shouldnt be talking. It has not always been glorious.

Alttabme is an entity that is growing and learning as it matures. I think that that, is perhaps why I am still here and why I could recommend this place to others. Stand strong.

I guess you could call me "Young Buck" here because i haven't really done many online gaming. I have always been console single player or mindless shoot the hell outta shit and get the shit shot outta me because the game sucked because i shot him (Blah COD crap) I am still heavily single-player minded and my first real MMO was GW2 and that is where i started looking for a guild and stumbled upon the tabbies. I started lurking and then made my presence known.

I love that this is a mature site and that we can have some very heated conversations and give our points and still be able to communicate afterwards. That is one reason why i am here m-f during work. It is an amazing place to come and talk about the latest games.

Thanks for the responses everyone,

I thought I'd go ahead and mention that the reason I was drawn to the site, was because of its promotion of Wildstar.

I think it's also appropriate that I provide a bit more context regarding my interests as opposed to a basic personal perspective as to why or how I choose to game. As I mentioned earlier I was playing EverQuest consistently until Luclin, but I continued to play off-and-on for weeks or months at a time, even after the release of World of Warcraft. There's a lot that can be said about World of Warcraft and how it improved or weakened the genre as a whole, but there are two points - primarily derivative of a parental motif - which most MMO'ers become aware of after they've gotten bored playing their few alts: simplicity and dilution.

I am, to be clear, speaking of the last generation of MMORPGs (essentially spanning a bit more than the last decade - the exact origin is a topic for another post). It's my hope that Wildstar will be the transition to the next gen of immersion and direction; but, we'll have to wait and see. Neverwinter had an idea, but the game as a whole is *too* diluted, with poorly designed in-game mechanics; however, the dungeon maker is a few stepping stones to the other side of the sandbox ocean of complete freedom

At the present time, I only play two games - Path of Exile and League of Legends - but it's a rare thing for me to log onto either. I thought for the longest that gaming in general was about as dead as modern cinema ...and well, it may be. However, even once in a while Hollywood or one of its siblings hit the nail on the head with a good movie and maybe once in a blue moon, there will be a great one.

One last word about Wildstar on my part - and as I am aware the faction 'vote' will occur at a later date as will discussion - but I wanted to chime in and say that I would be completely satisfied with either faction and any class needed by the group. However, I am fond of the Aurin and Granok, the Dominion's idealism and I enjoy healing, magic DPSing, off-tanking, crowd controlling and utility supports.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TL;DR - I'm excited about Wildstar as I currently have no other mainstay game to play. I think it may be one of the transitional games to the next gen MMOs (depending on how EQ3 shapes up). Last, I'm 'ok' with either faction and performing any role needed for the betterment of the group.
