GW2 I need help.... *sadface*

So...I mentioned in my application ( http://alttabme.com/forum/index.php?threads/claarks-application.1582/ ) But I intentionally stayed away from the pre-release hype for GW2, I wanted to jump in head first with no information and play the game for what it is. But lately, I've been struggling to log in. I'm a current lvl 60 Engineer and I just find it....boring. I don't know if it's the class, the game, me, or my playtime and lack of social interaction, I work nights and play days or late at night, or maybe a combination of all the above...I've considered re-rolling to a caster class (my traditional class in other games) and seeing if I enjoy it more. Or maybe I should just grind out my last 20 levels and see what happens.

I'm looking to you guys, the more veteran types, for some advice.

Thanks

I go through waves. My first goal was to hit 80, but at the same time I worked on my map completion. After 100% map completion, I started to spend time in WvW. After WvW, I did some dungeons. Then Halloween came out, and did Halloween stuff. After halloween, I did A LOT of SPvP. Then Karka Lost shores event, then I played another game for a bit, then came back for wintersday, then hit fractals hard, and now in a lull again.

If you haven't leveled in WvW yet, I'd suggest it. It gives a different play feel but still helps you progress at a pretty decent rate. It could be the class, but I suggest hitting 80 first then re-rolling. At least you know you'll have your 80 to do anything in the game you want at any time without any real sacrifice (other than maybe getting to a zone). Then, after 80, try out some more classes. That's my suggestion, but if your engy is THAT boring to you, might be best to re-roll. And go to zones you didn't do on your engy to keep it fresh while you level.

Oh, and do your personal story. That boosts the leveling speed quite a bit.

Claark, depending on your play style, I recommend partnering up with guildies to enjoy the game more. I am more of a casual PvE player, but if I am ever online when you are, I'd be more than happy to run around with you and have some fun. I have a level 80 necromancer, and I still don't know how I hit 80 because most of that was soloing and running around willy nilly.

I haven't done many dungeons, but had a lot of fun last night with Kel and Rhia. And of course our guild 'special events', which I hope to make more of in the future, are a great time.

For me the most fun is just learning the lore, reading the dialogue from the NPCs, and checking out the scenery. I like crafting, but it is a pretty linear experience. I would like that to be more of a challenge.

I think peaks and valleys of interest in any game are normal... but ultimately it is the players, your community, your pals & buddies, that keep you coming back for more!

I haven't created any alts yet, have only been playing my Necromancer, but I think if/when I get bored, that will be my next step... along with looking forward to new content and patch updates. Hang in there!

It's really just a matter of taste and playstyle. Not everyone is going to like GW2 enough to play on a daily or even weekly basis. I took a break from it over the holidays (didn't log during Winter's End even once) and didn't really miss it. Over the last week, I've logged in probably 3 times for about 2 hours or so. I enjoyed the time, but I don't feel especially motivated to play more often or for extended hours. I think that has to do more with my evolving personal preferences more than any shortcomings within the game.

If you want to play, but find what you do boring, then try something new. If you normally do PvE, spend some time in WvW or crafting (they also give exp) or pug some dungeons. If it's not challenging enough, try going into some areas that are slightly over leveled for you. Go run through Orria and see how long you can dodge the undead. Go dance naked through the streets of LA. Follow a random person around and help them kill everything they attack for no reason at all.

Above all, just relax. There's nothing weird about you or magic trick to the game.

I love this post for so many reasons. I say try a new class. The engi is def limited on what they can do. Might I suggest warrior. I have heard good things if you don't mind being in the majority.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation there Claark. The only difference is that I ended up taking a break when I hit 52 (long story short, my group stopped playing and I was left without any real interest to continue). I'm coming back now and I'm presented with the the same choices, start a new character or continue my unfinished one. I think I've decided that I'm likely going to juggle a bit of both. Whenever one starts to wear on me, swap to the other and then back again. I'll be moving over to Yak's Bend shortly so if ever you're looking for someone to play with, I'll be around :)

Yes, try a warrior. They're a lot of fun to play. I'd suggest a big ol' beefy Norn if you haven't rolled one of them yet, I felt like the entire story of a Norn was very fitting for the class. The real great thing about a warrior is that all the weapon combo's are fun, and fairly different. It was my active goal while levelling to try out different combo's every 8-12 levels to get a different 'refreshed' feel to combat as I progressed.

Something else you can do is make a character and play them 'hardcore'. I'm working on a guardian right now and will only use weapons/armor that I've found, or crafted, on that character alone. It makes the game a little more personal if you avoid purchasing your 'wants' on the AH. It's also way more exciting to finally get a drop you want, and makes events/exploration/map completion really worth it.

Glad to know I'm not alone here. I play an Engi as well but am considering playing my Guard again and maybe leveling the warrior...just not sure, to be honest.

How are you playing your engineer in combat? What is your traits build? Are you using turrets? Turrets suck. Join us here. We can help.

I'm not even level 50 yet. It just feels restrictive. I want to play with turrets, but can't because they suck. I just want to feel like I can play however I want and I don't feel like that and it's pretty frustrating. I need to keep at it, I guess. I felt like with the guard at least things were more viable in PvE, not so much in WvW...the Engi is awesome for WvW so far. The bombs are kind of fun, but I hate having to click-target everything, it's annoying. Maybe I just need to try different builds....

Turn on smartcasting. Tutorial. You can then throw AoE effects at the mouse cursor location. You'll find this much easier to use bombs, grenades and any other AoE. It's a must-have for PvP.

Another way around click targeting: You can just press the key twice. Not as good as smartcasting but you can see the reticle, if you need it.
