What role do you wish to play in the guild? For example: PvP, PvE, Casual/Social
I am definitely a PvE focused person. I've already went and done 100% world completion because I just couldn't help myself. I'm currently working on doing all the jumping puzzles. I want to experience the dungeons (both story and explorable) with people who aren't a bunch of random strangers; I've only done Sorrow's Embrace Story Mode (weird place to start, I know) with a PuG and while they were good players it felt...dry.
That doesn't mean I'm not interested in anything else though. I'm always up for some good messing around doing nothing in particular.
I'm not usually a fan of PvP but world completion forced me to go into WvW - and I actually enjoyed it. So while I don't intend to make it my own primary focus I definitely want to jump in there often. Although running supplies and piggybacking random guilds can still be fun, it gets lonely. Structured PvP I'm not terribly interested in but there's nothing stopping me from doing it with other people in the guild every now and again.
Which previous MMO's or online games have you played and how long for?
I played Wacraft III online for about a year and recently got into Starcraft II, but haven't spent much time online since now I'm just waiting for Heart of the Swarm.
I played WoW for about two years during Burning Crusade and the beginning of Wrath of the Lich King.
I also played Lord of the Rings Online for a couple of months and then lost interest in Moria which is odd because I actually really liked Moria.
I almost hesitate to include this, but I played MapleStory for maybe 18 months? when I was 13. However, I think it's somewhat important because...
Were you a part of a guild? What was your experience?
it's where I joined my first guild. Somehow, in that mess of a game and even worse mess of a community I found a medium-sized (about 50) group of people who were actually sane and well-articulated enough to have fun with. Since at the time gameplay (that was fun) was practically non-existent, we had to make our own fun and it somehow worked. I remember this one time we went into some dungeon area that required a very specific set of skills to pass. Even though we lacked some of them we tried to see how far we could get anyway. We made it all the way to the final boss multiple times...and then promptly died. But it was fun because we all died together. It was made into a social fun guild that still did actual stuff when it had to. It sort of set the precedence for what I look for in guilds and other online communities from there on out: big enough to feel like a community instead of a small social circle but not so big that it becomes a zerg.
At about the same time I was playing WC3 in a rather large clan of which I can't even remember the name of the leader, which also helps the fact that I'm not a fan of really big guilds. I didn't really know anyone even though I played with them.
After taking a break from online games I finally bit the WoW bullet and played with some friends in a guild similar to my previous one, just a little smaller. We did quite a bit of dungeon running but never got too far into raiding. It was pretty casual which didn't agree with WoW's raiding scene.
In LotRO I never ended up joining a Kinship (what they call guild). Same with Starcraft II; I never got to into the online community.
How did you hear about the Guild?
I've been looking for a guild for a while now trying to find one that felt right. I forget exactly where I came across an advertisement for the guild; it was either GW2Guru or GW2Guilds.
I also recall watching a podcast or two of yours a while back but never investigated.
What will you bring to the ALTTABME community? (Chatty? Skilled? Funny? Helping?)
When I do something in a game, I like to know what it is I'm doing so I can either do it right or figure out how to do it right. While I hardly consider myself a "skilled" GW2 player (no pvp or dungeon experience?) I try to always make sure that I'm doing what I do efficiently. With this comes knowledge of the game mechanics.
I am quiet and shy but if you get me talking and I feel comfortable with the people I'm talking to I can be pretty chatty. There's always something to talk about especially with GW2 being in the state it is (flaws and all). I also enjoy helping others out. You get that nice feeling of helpfulness. What I really love though is when I help someone with something I've done before, to pass on my knowledge and live through the experience again vicariously.
Will Arcanix be the only guild you join?
I can only imagine Yes
Is there anything else you would like to throw in here at the end?
Absolutely.
First off, let me regale you with the tale of Gurgerar's name.
Way back in MapleStory I decided I liked playing a Ranger. So I did.
Then in WoW, I chose a mage. Again, ranged DPS.
In LotRO, I made a hunter. Again, bows and ranged DPS.
So in GW2 my first try was a Ranger. But it didn't feel right. Maybe it was the pet.
Then I tried an elementalist cus hey, it's kinda like a mage, right? It was actually pretty fun but I lost drive with it around level 22. Maybe it's just cus I went to Brisban Wildlands to level. >_>
I decided to take a break from the elementalist and come back later. I heard Warriors were easy mode so I made the dumbest character possible:
A max size all black furred with skulls around his neck Charr Warrior named GURGERAR! It was intended to be a joke character. But I actually found that, somehow, I liked the warrior. I liked that it could be versatile in melee with the variety of weapon combinations and that with the rifle and longbow ranged damage that didn't suck could still be dealt. I liked that you could level with a bunch of signets and a 70%+ crit chance. And now that a build like that is horrible and ill-suited, I like that I can come up with something with the right mix of support and offense to deal damage and live long enough to do so. And I like that I can use an anchor as a hammer model.
Since hitting 80 I have made a number of different classes, none of which have surpassed level 7. The lonely elementalist is still level 22 and awaits the day he will reach 23.
I am from and currently attending university in New England. I'm a freshman studying engineering; I still haven't officially declared a major within the college but am heavily considering electrical or computer.
I played both the alto and tenor saxophones for 7 years in middle/high school. My junior and senior year I was first chair in jazz band. So even though I don't play much anymore I'm still proud of that.
Even though I am quite busy I still find ample time to play. Although I expect things to change soon I actually have more free time now than last year...or it just feels that way. Since I've been an active 'gamer' since I...started school, really (even if a lot of that was not online), I have gotten relatively good at balancing the time.
I always get nervous about hitting the submit button for things like this, so uhm. Thank you for considering.
Have you finished all of the prerequisite requirements?
Yes
