[Aug 27, 2013] Smite Night Tournament (Smite)

Simpwn

Praise the Sun!
Our first Smite night was a godly good time so we are stepping it up for our next event. We are going to learn from our experience last time and make a few changes to the format. This event will follow a dedicated tournament structure with 3v3 teams battling it out. The plan is for each team to face one another and the two teams with the best record at the end of the 3 rounds will go on to face each other for supreme bragging rights while the losers battle it out.

Because of the format I am going to limit this event to the first 12 participants. I want to set up the brackets early enough so people can talk strategy with their teams. The people that respond to this event will randomly be assigned a team once 12 participants are chosen. We hope other members will come check out the matches on Mumble and Twitch. It is also possible we will need some last minute replacements depending on attendance. When you sign up please include your Smite username in a post so I can keep track.

Here are the teams. (I used http://chir.ag/projects/team-maker/) The random will fill in on Team Athena.

Team Zeus

Team Athena

Team Hera

Team Hermes

We are going to have 3v3 Joust matches in the following format.
Team Zeus vs Team Athena
Team Hera vs Team Hermes
Winners will face each other. Losers will face each other.
Good luck to you all!

I also appreciate any suggestions you guys have towards setting up the matches or determining a format.

OneWhoRuns, keeping it simple.

For 3v3's, Jousts make the most sense to do because they have the map specifically for it; but i suppose arena could work as well. Assault is too random and team comps alone could be the doom of a team.

Yeah, joust really is the only suitable format for a 3v3.

Can't wait! Incidentally, arena is great for 3v3. It's generally quick and if we have a bunch of brackets we may not have time to get through them all if we play Joust.

Thats what I worry about. While I know joust is perfect for 3v3 the games might run long.

If everyone is dead set on sticking to joust only (I worry that 3 in arena isn't enough to make it worth it) then we have two options. A) Make it a bracket based tournament where 4 teams in, the 2 winners face each other, the 2 losers face each other. B) Split the tournament into 2 nights and get all the games in. I like option A myself because we could run into scheduling issues with option B. We might just have to play it by ear and see how much time remains.

Could do it round robin style as well. Each team would play 3 matches, and if needed the teams that go 2-1 would face off against eachother for the title and the teams that go 1-2 fight for 3rd/4th.

Unless we have a clear indicator of 3-0, 2-1, 1-2, and 0-3.

Fixed.

Also I still maintain that we need a crazy Assault night, so people learn and become more comfortable with other gods.

Agree agree agree!!!! I've played a few of these now and each time I get such a good feel for the different gods, some I never would have played and loved, others I wanted to play then didnt like so much!

There's still time/hope. We may also have randoms walk in at the last minute like last time.

I'll hold off as long as possible before creating the groups.

Last time not all replied they was coming we ended up with 12/13 people even though 3 was late. But only 8 said they was coming.

This is why I'm going to reserve spots for those that sign up and base teams off that. If you don't register you might not be guaranteed a spot.

there also may be some non-members that have been playing smite pretty consistently to round out groups. maybe not first pick obviously but Jamadin and some others have been joining our groups evenings pretty consistently.

Jamadin has been on mumble/smite a lot. I haven't seen him on the site though. Someone make sure he applies!

I'll try to remember him when drafting the teams.

Imma change my status from no to maybe, it depends on LCS. Add me in game; Dainjre.
